"Between 500,000 to 1.2 Million girls are working in the sex trade in South Korea."
Wellesley KSA & Jubilee Project present the screening of the "Save my Seoul" documentary, which follows two Korean-American brothers as they discover rampant prostitution and sex trafficking in Seoul, South Korea. With the use of hidden cameras and access to pimps, johns, and sex-workers, Eddie and Jason explore and unravel the complexity of the sex trade in Seoul. They learn that this problem is rooted in issues far deeper than lost girls and lustful men. Instead, it's a consequence of the broken Korean culture that turns a blind eye to and condones one of the biggest human injustices of our generation. The purpose of Save My Seoul is to raise awareness of prostitution and sex trafficking in Korea for the Western world and ultimately to spur action to end trafficking in Korea and beyond. Because local Koreans are so familiar with this issue, we believe that change will happen when the world becomes aware of this brokenness in Korea. And it begins by shining a light on these injustices. This description was taken from Jubilee Project's trailer for "Save My Seoul," which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb3eQauyfMQ Come join us on Tuesday, November 18th at 5-7 PM in the Pendleton Atrium! The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Jason, one of the directors and co-founders of the documentary and The Jubilee Project, respectively. DINNER WILL BE SERVED!!! Social Chair: Jane Pak '16 Community Service Chair: Stephanie Kim '17 Korean Program Liaison: Claire Shin '17 First-Year Representatives: Chelsea Kim '17 Kyungmin Kim '17 KSA is kickstarted this year with a bang! Our new E-board has worked very hard to put together 4 major events for September: 1) KSA 1st General Meeting On Thursday, September 12th, E-board members held a general meeting in Lakehouse living room. We were so happy with the turnout--not only did we see familiar faces, but we also saw many new faces as well. There was so much bonding that night over icebreakers and, of course, snacks (because what is a KSA general meeting without good food?). This was and is a very big motivating factor for the KSA E-board, so that we can continue creating events that allow us to bond and grow as a community! 2) Euphoria This was our MOST SUCCESSFUL Euphoria yet. As our biggest party of the semester, e-board was so excited to put this event together. We were proud to have DJ ODDnary, the one of the hottest female DJ's in Korea, spin for us that night. Over 500 people showed up this time and we have so much excitement for the next Euphoria! For pictures from the event, click here. 3) KSA Elections On Sunday, September 22nd, many brilliant candidates prepared speeches for KSA's open E-board positions. This year's e-board was so thrilled with the overwhelming talent that every candidate had. We are now thrilled to have filled our positions and are excited to work together as a full E-board!! 4) Mid Autumn Festival So, Sunday was a very busy day. Right after our KSA elections, we along with CSA, JC, and Slater put together a Mid-Autumn Festival. Mooncakes, ricecakes, and other delicious delicacies were served to celebrate this lunar holiday.
Can't wait for November! Hi everyone, Jenny and I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for such a wonderful year and to say goodbye to our e-board and our members. We have truly enjoyed our time as presidents and it was a great year of personal development and growth for us both. We appreciate the love and support that we were given by our e-board, our members, and our larger community. As we move on, we are proud to become KSA alumnae who will strive to provide support for KSA even after we graduate. We follow a long line of presidents and e-board members who dedicated their time to KSA and the greater Wellesley community. For the new executive board, we wish you the best of luck in your year as leaders of KSA and Wellesley. We are so happy and excited to see strong leadership following in over 25 years of history. We hope that you all will gain what we have gained from KSA: friendship, family, personal growth, and support. More than anything, we hope KSA can provide you with a second home at Wellesley. We look forward to seeing KSA remain prominent and grow as an organization both within Wellesley and in the greater Boston area. Thank you so much and goodbye! Best, Sophia Chen '13 | Jenny Yang '13 KSA Co-Presidents 2012-2013 In honor of the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean War, KSA will be presenting "Fading Away," a documentary that shares the untold stories of the Korean War through our soldiers, fathers, and mothers. It's a great but emotional film that is eye-opening and educational, as well as amusing and humorous at times.
Please come! It will be a great event, and our last event. When: Thursday, April 25th, 2013 at 6:30 PM Where: Collins Cinema Food will be served! See you there! KSA |
